Dress Code: Formal Western or Indian attire is appropriate. The ceremony will take place at the Sikh Temple. Head coverings and "modest clothing" covering the shoulders & knees is mandatory. Head coverings will be provided at the temple.
The day begins with the arrival of the groom's party, known as the Baraat, who are welcomed by the bride's family outside the Gurdwara.
Ardas & Milni is a respectful greeting ceremony that starts with a prayer. Key family members from both sides exchange garlands and warm embraces, signifying unity and mutual respect.
A moment to refresh and gather strength for the sacred ceremonies ahead. Traditional refreshments are served to all guests.
Anand Karaj (blissful union) - at the heart of the ceremony are the Laavaan, four hymns composed by Guru Ram Das Ji that outline the journey of marriage as a spiritual progression. With each Laav, the couple walks around the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
A blessed vegetarian meal served to all guests as part of the sacred tradition of Langar (community kitchen).
The formal departure of the bride, leaving her maternal family to begin her new journey with her husband's family.
